Hi my name is Josie Alvarez and I’m the Social Emotional Counselor at New School.
I am excited to be a part of the New School community because I was an alternative education high school graduate. I understand how sometimes the comprehensive high schools don’t work for every student and that a different type of learning environment is needed to succeed.
This school feels like a community - and I’m happy to belong to it!

My name is Monica Nowlin, and I am the Academic Counselor for both New School Community Day and Renaissance High School. I love working in alternative education, and the schools I serve have taught me a lot about the world and the ways we can all make a difference.
I have worked in the PVUSD community since 2017 and at New School since 2021. Currently, I am physically available on the New School campus 2 days a week, on Wednesdays and Thursdays. However, you can reach me anytime by phone or email if you need any assistance or have any questions. I help support our students in achieving academic success and pursuing their post-secondary goals.
