JODI RICHARDSON

My name is Jodi Richardson
I earned my teaching credential at San Jose State University back in the early nineties. I taught in a few school districts over the hill in Santa Clara County before moving to Santa Cruz with my family.
I took time away from teaching after my second son was born. When my sons grew older, I volunteered at their schools working in the classrooms and going on field trips. One of my sons was diagnosed with a learning difficulty. As a parent and a teacher, I have learned a great deal because of these experiences. Furthermore, it has changed the way I see things and has made me an even bigger supporter of alternative schools.
For the past few years, I have worked with the Santa Cruz County Office of Education as an alternative education teacher. These positions led me to my new position at New School. I am excited to be working here. I know that education can change lives for the better.

I teach English, Science, Biology and coach all our athletic teams. I began substitute teaching at New School during the fourth quarter of the 2010 school year and I have been here ever since. Teaching and coaching at New School is the best thing I've ever done.
During the 2011 basketball season I coached the New School Black Sheep Boys team to their first Monterey Bay Alternative Schools Athletic League Championship and the Girls team to 3rd place in the M.B.A.S.A.L. Division I. I also began coaching the co-ed soccer and softball teams in the Spring of 2011, and our beach volleyball teams in the Fall. New School officially changed mascots from Black Sheep to Aztecs for the 2011/2012 school year. We have since won beach volleyball championships in 2011, 2013, 2014, lost the soccer championship to Renaissance High School by narrow margins the last two years and won the Division I, Co-Ed Basketball Championship for 2016.
